Hi, I’m Barbara Chung, R.H.N. and welcome to my site. I’d like to share with you my journey to becoming a holistic nutritionist.

I thought my family had been eating reasonably healthy. We didn’t regularly eat at fast food restaurants, and I tried to make sure that there was a vegetable on the table at most meals.

But something wasn’t working for me.

I often felt drained. Then in my 40’s, I started having issues with heavy menstrual flow. As my mentrual issues worsened, I started suffering from anaemia. I felt so burned out that my kids were getting the worst of me.

As my children became more active and I struggled with energy, I left my corporate job to focus on my family’s needs.

My doctor put me on iron supplements and hormone medication. The iron supplements managed my anaemia, but the hormones made me feel miserable. I felt lethargic, irritable and my weight crept up steadily.

The internet offered up bits and pieces of information that were sometimes contradictory, and the worst-case possibilities freaked me out!

What I hadn’t realized was that I had been gradually making dietary changes over time to accommodate a busy schedule, and family members’ food preferences.

In the process, white rice (which I don’t even like) and pre-made frozen foods became staples at our dinner table.

In the midst of my chaos, I came across a workshop offered by a local holistic nutritionist. She inspired me to start making small conscious changes to our meals.

Over time, my focus and energy improved and I went off the medication. My weight was holding steady and I was happy that it wasn’t creeping up any further.

We have been a peanut-free household since my daughter is allergic to peanuts. When my son came home from university with gut issues, we found he had become sensitive to a variety of foods, including dairy. As he searched for answers, he was put on a FODMAP diet by his specialist which sent me on a mission to further adjust our family meals.

I wanted to learn more. I signed up for classes at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN). As I learned about foods that supported gut health, I now had more answers to help my son, despite his dietary restrictions.

I continued to learn and tweak what my family ate. I gained more energy and I was able to focus better than I’ve had in a very long time. I was thrilled when my weight started slowly decreasing.

Seeing the changes a holistic approach made in my life is inspiring me to help others achieve their health goals.

Whether you’re looking to live a healthier lifestyle, are working on a personal objective, or have been provided with a specialized diet from your health practitioner, I can work with you to help with your unique situation.

I would be happy to support you on your journey with holistic nutrition.
